Food, Inc.

So I just finished watching the recently released movie, "Food, Inc."

Wow, what an eye opener. I mean, there are more and more books, news stories, and movies coming out that are opening our eyes to the food industry and how we get the food that we eat. But man, it is tough to watch! I told you in earlier posts that I had read Skinny Bitch, and there is only a single chapter (a few pages) that touches on the meat industry and slaughterhouses.

Food, Inc. goes into a lot more detail regarding the POWER involved in this industry. Power abused by the FDA and multi-national companies...but also the power that we have as consumers! I encourage anyone to watch this...even though it is hard to get through...and it really makes you cringe inside when watching/listening to various stories and encounters. BUT, it is also another tool that is helping to educate us about what we are eating and where it is coming from.

The movie even featured Chipotle (one of my favorite restaurants) and their motto, "Food With Integrity". Over the years, they have moved closer and closer to only choosing naturally raised (no antibiotics & vegetarian-fed) meat products. It makes me love this place even more!!

It definitely reaffirms my decision to quit eating beef, chicken, and pork...which is going well, I might add. I am starting to collect many good vegetarian recipes and talk with a lot more vegetarians about their transition to vegetarianland. :) And I discovered a new Morning Star product that I love:

I'm not kidding...these things are yummy!! Just give them a try :)

Well, I think I will get on with my Saturday of resting, relaxing, and maybe a little knitting (I finished the carrot and am now onto the cucumber...pics will come later). Happy Saturday!

  1. Melissa also saw that movie and said it's a MUST. I guess I'm going to have to break down and rent it...although I'm quite fond of my meat loving ways. Just not all the violence and terrible things that go with it!

  2. Yeah, it's a tough one to get through! It really opens your eyes about what's going on behind the scenes...although I know many people who would just prefer not to know! ;) Have you read Skinny Bitch? It's a good read, it talks a lot more about simple things you can add/take away from your diet, rather than just cutting out meat. It's all so interesting...
